About us

Privacy shouldn't be a luxury.

We built NebulaVPN because the free VPN market is broken — full of stale server lists, broken promises, and apps that quietly profit off the very data they claim to protect. We thought we could do better.

Our mission

Make a VPN that actually connects, respects your privacy by default, and costs nothing to use. That's the whole pitch. Everything else — the animated interface, the hourly server refresh, the automatic failover — is just us trying to deliver on that promise without compromise.

We believe everyone deserves to browse, stream, and communicate without being watched, throttled, or fenced in by geography. A VPN is one of the simplest tools for reclaiming that freedom, and we don't think it should sit behind a paywall.

Why "Nebula"?

A nebula is a vast, shifting cloud of gas and dust where stars are born — beautiful, dynamic, and constantly in motion. That's exactly how we think of our server network: alive, always changing, and refreshingly far from the rigid, corporate feel of most security apps. The aurora you see across the app and this site isn't just decoration; it's our visual promise that privacy can feel expansive rather than claustrophobic.

The short version: We don't run the VPN servers. We run the brains that find, test, and rank the best ones for you — every hour, automatically. That separation is the foundation of our no-logs promise.

How our server validation actually works

This is the part most free VPNs skip — and it's the reason NebulaVPN feels different. Behind the scenes, an automated pipeline runs every hour and puts every candidate server through a multi-stage gauntlet:

  • Gather. We pull the full list of available community servers from the VPN Gate network — hundreds of them, constantly churning.
  • Probe for reachability. Up to 120 servers are tested in parallel for raw TCP connectivity and latency. Anything slow or unreachable is cut immediately.
  • Prove it works. For the survivors, we open a real OpenVPN tunnel and verify that the exit IP is genuinely different from the runner's. A server only passes if egress is proven, not assumed.
  • Score and rank. We blend reliability, latency, throughput, and current load into a single smart score, then sort best-first so the top of your list is always the top of its game.
  • Learn over time. A reliability history smooths out one-off blips, so a server that's dependable for weeks outranks a lucky newcomer.

The result lands in your app as a clean, ranked list of servers that are alive right now — not a graveyard of dead nodes that a static list would happily hand you.

Our values

Privacy by default

If we don't need data, we don't collect it. What little we do handle is spelled out plainly in our policy — no fine print.

Radical transparency

We'd rather tell you exactly how the validation works than hide behind marketing. Real privacy deserves a real explanation.

Free, genuinely

No bait tiers, no surprise paywalls. Lightweight ads keep the lights on so you never have to choose between privacy and your wallet.

Who's behind it

NebulaVPN is built and maintained by Team Raven — a small, independent group of developers who got tired of recommending "the least bad" free VPN. We're not a faceless corporation; we're people who use this app ourselves, every day. When something breaks, you can reach a human at [email protected] and we'll answer.

Where we go from here

We're always improving — sharper server scoring, smoother failover, a broader reachable footprint, and an interface that stays a pleasure to use. If there's a feature you'd love or a server you can't reach, tell us. NebulaVPN grows in the direction its users point it.
